This session will inform the audience about the use of Building Information Modeling for Infrastructure (BIM4I) technology as a model-based design approach aimed at adopting the Model as Legal Document (MALD). It will also cover the adoption of Common Data Environments (CDE) from four major software vendors for BIM4I and the integration of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) into a Connected Data Environment (CDE) for the 2024–2025 fiscal year marketplace.
- Thomas Coleman, WSP, will showcase the implementation of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) in the design process. The presentation will highlight how optimization and the evolving potential of these technologies enable more collaborative, efficient, and effective building and infrastructure design.
- Cagin Yakar, OpenBrIM Platform, presenter will demonstrate a free, web-based modeling and visualization workflow that requires no local software installation. The tool allows users to review, manipulate, and build models without any programming knowledge, significantly easing its adoption as a standard practice within the bridge design and construction community.
- Russ Tambly, Trimble, will share real-world use cases of the Quadri platform, an advanced collaboration tool for infrastructure projects. Additionally, they will discuss Trimble Connect—a cloud-based Common Data Environment (CDE) and collaboration solution—designed to support real-world construction workflows.
The session will be moderated by Kourosh Langari of the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans).
